New Level of Local Access to Cardiovascular Specialists

Mercy Heart Center, Mason City Clinic and Mercy Medical Center – New Hampton are collaborating to provide a new level of local access to cardiovascular specialists by offering Mercy Heart Center services in New Hampton. Drs. James Tatkon-Coker, Gohlam Zadeii, and Byron Beasley are rotating seeing patients at Mercy Family Clinic - New Hampton every Monday afternoon.  Cardiac patients now have expanded access to cardiovascular consultations without having to travel long distances to receive quality heart care.

To complement the Mercy Heart Center’s practice, telemedicine technology will be utilized to connect Mercy – New Hampton physicians with the Heart Center’s cardiologists via high definition video and audio. Telemedicine Specialists Across Mercy Medical (T-SAMM) allows a patient to be examined and by using special equipment, a Mercy Heart Center/Mason City Clinic cardiologist in Mason City can communicate with the patient, hear the heart and lungs, view EKGs, and assess signs and symptoms of heart disease during the exam. This local access to cardiovascular specialists provides timely assessment and treatment of heart disease, a time sensitive diagnosis.

Mercy Heart Center is led by Mason City Clinic’s team of seven highly skilled cardiologists and a cardiac surgeon who take their patients’ welfare seriously and personally. The services provided by the Heart Center has generated national recognition for Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa as a Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital; only 11 hospitals in the entire nation have received this award eight or more years.
